[MITgcm-support] ABNORMAL END: S/R CALC_R_STAR

Zhaomin,

   That message usually occurs when your time step is too small.  Try 
lowering deltaT.  I interpret it as the model's way of telling me I've 
violated the CFL condition.

In the STDOUT file (in the MONITOR statistics section) you can check 
advcfl_uvel_max, advcfl_vvel_max, and advcfl_wvel_max.  I empirically find 
that the model tends to give this message if the first two are greater 
than about 0.5; 0.1 for the third one.

Another solution is to change the minimum thickness parameter hFacInf to a 
lower value (the default is 20%)

I use the atmospheric version of the model.
