Zhaomin,

positive UVEL means flow in the direction of increasing i-index (similar for VVEL/j-index). Depending on your grid this may or may not be the zonal direction (e.g. for the cubed sphere grid it depends very much on where you are on the grid). For simple lon/lat-grid, UVEL should be most positive in the ACC.

I just hope that this also is clear from the documentation.
