[MITgcm-support] KPP and Heat Budget

Hello GCMers,

I am working on calculating the time- and zonally-averaged heat budget
in my GCM simulations. When using convective adjustment (i.e. KPP is
OFF), I can close the budget as the sum of advective fluxes ('VTtave'
etc.), diffusive fluxes ('Tdiftave'), and external forcing. However,
when I turn on KPP, I can no longer close the budget, particularly, in
regions of strong convection. It seems like I am missing some element
of the convective flux, but this is just a guess.

I thought that all of the KPP-induced fluxes would end up 'Tdiftave',
so my diagnostics would not have to change depending on the convection
scheme.

Am I wrong?

Thanks,
