[MITgcm-support] Energy diagnostics?

Hi all,

OK, my attempt at energy diagnostics is at:

http://web.uvic.ca/~jklymak/MITgcm/

http://web.uvic.ca/~jklymak/MITgcm/energy_diagnostics_fill.F

and

http://web.uvic.ca/~jklymak/MITgcm/EnergyDiagnostic.pdf
which is a very quick writeup.

It is essentially dE/dt = u*(P+E) + D where D is some unspecified
dissipation. I do everything depth-integrated so the user needs to be
careful in performing the actual budgets in post processing. I have a
quick write up of how I do it. My runs are 2-D, but 3-D should work
as well. Obvious extensions would be full 3-D fluxes, but I don't
need to do these very often, and 2-D diagnostcs are much smaller and
easier to work with.

It seems probable to me that I have some slight errors in here that
are causing there to be small imperfections in the energy budget.
However, the results are an order of magnitude better than I could get
from snapshots, so I'm happy so far.

If anyone finds errors or has suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks, Jody
