Hi Sergey,

You could construct a script (shell/python/...) in which you run tail on 
the MITgcm output and grep 
on NaN. Run it in a infinite loop with a sleep in between, say every 5 
mintues or so. If you give the 
script (or let it find out what is) the PID, it is easy to kill if nan's 
are found.

This is at least one solution. Don't know if MITgcm can check for it 
itself.
