Hi folks,

Just for the record, heres what happened:

  1) The mitgcm.org machine is on a CSAIL subnet and its routing
to the outside world changed sometime in the last few weeks.

  2) This routing change involved a new connection to the Internet2
backbone and a sloppy (?) setting of CSAIL's routes.

  3) Certain Internet2-connected sites (including GFDL) were hit
     by this routing problem.

  4) CSAIL ("t!g") staff are aware of it and state that its "a
temporary problem and will be resolved by the end of june"

  5) Folks at GFDL have setup a temporary work-around for their
     network.

Many thanks to Larry Lewis and Greg Shomo for taking the time to find
and explain the above.

Ed
