Hi,

for the input files ncep_qnet.bin and ncep_emp.bin, I have downloaded
ncep reanalysis data from this site:

http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu/SOURCES/.NOAA/.NCEP-NCAR/.CDAS-1/
.MONTHLY/.Diagnostic/.surface/

The data ranges from 1949 till today. Somewhere on this webpage you can
include a filter, so that you get a monthly mean climatology from all
years. This is what I did in 2002, so I got an average over the years
1949 to 2002. I downloaded latent and sensible heat flux, long wave
flux (lwflx), incomming solar radiation (solr), and added them up, and
interpolated them to the global_ocean.90x40x15 grid to get
ncep_qnet.bin. For ncep_emp.bin I used the difference of
precipitation/1000 and evaporation (estimated from lwflx/2.5e6/1000).
Not to forget, I balanced heat flux and freshwater flux on the 90x40x15
domain (depend on the land mask).

Just recently I noticed that the oceanic meridional heat transport
implied by the ncep-heat flux (both the raw data and ncep_qnet.bin)
does not agree very well with other estimates, especially in the
Southern Ocean, so use the data with caution.
global_ocean.90x40x15 is only meant as an example. We tried to tune
the model so that the circulation resembles what we believe it should
be and the heat flux problem is actually overwhelmed by the temperature
restoring so that the actual heat flux in the ocean model is not so
bad.

Martin
PS. I am currently having a closer look at the data to find out why the
ncep heat flux is so different from what, e.g., Trenberth+Caron (2001,
J.Clim.) find.
