[MITgcm-support] cross land mixing

Dear all,

We have a domain which is composed of two water bodies connected via a
narrow strait. The straight is very narrow, 2 km wide, so we can not
reduce the resolution in order to resolve the flow through the straight
because of time step limitation. We still want the two water bodies to
'communicate', i.e. to exchange tracers (salinity and temperature),
something similar to what is called "cross land mixing" or "inland
mixing" in MOM.

Similar situation arises when running global simulation and there is a need
to exchange properties between, say, the Med. and the Atlantic ocean or the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Any advice how to do it with the MITgcm?

thanks, hezi.
