Hi folks,

Alistair and Jean-Michel have been prodding me to cleanup the
"optfiles" located in MITgcm/tools/build_options. Their requests
are:

  1) move old or "unused" optfiles to the directory
       MITgcm/tools/build_options/unsupported
so theres less clutter and confusion

  2) harmonize the optfiles so they all have a more
consistent structure (similar naming and internal
order) with the "standard" form looking like the
     following examples:
       MITgcm/tools/build_options/linux_ia32_g77
       MITgcm/tools/build_options/linux_ia32_g77+mpi_cg01
       MITgcm/tools/build_options/linux_ia32_g77+mpi_itrda

So I'm sending this email to all MITgcm users because I'd like to
request (or is it beg for?) help with the following:

  1) The utility "MITgcm/tools/suggest_optfile_names"
has been added to help find the correct optfiles
for a particular platform and/or to suggest a name
for a new optfile. Please follow its suggestions
and, when it doesn't work, send us an email with
your bugs and/or suggestions for improvement.

  2) PLEASE send me (email is fine!) your custom optfiles,
especially those that have been tested in the past
6 months and are (or were) known to work. Where its
possible, I'll try to make them the default for
their respective platforms by changing their
names to match the above pattern.

  3) Editing the optfiles may be disruptive--please let
us know if we break anything and we'll fix it ASAP.

Thanks!
Ed
