Sorry for taking 10 days to respond. I was hoping that one of the other
Mac users would speak up and then the email got somewhat buried in my
"inbox"...
In any case, there are at least two different ways to install NetCDF on
Mac OSX systems. Probably the easier approach is to use the "fink"
packaging system:
http://fink.sourceforge.net/
which includes a NetCDF package along with other very helpful tools such
as NCO. I know that the fink NetCDF version can work with MITgcm since
other people are using it.
The second method is to compile and install NetCDF on your own and their
install documentation:
http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/software/netcdf/INSTALL.html
includes a section on Mac OSX systems.
