Martin, I am not sure this is relevant or useful:

In MITgcm_contrib/ocean_inversion_project there is an experiment that
checks that salinity and ptracers results are exactly the same.  It's
the first one described in the README file.  In my experience the
PTRACER*.data files are always bit-identical to corresponding S.*.data
file.  But I have never tried experiment with linear equation of state
and sBeta=0.
