That's because the known_hosts in .ssh/ is behind the times.
You can either copy the /etc/ssh/ stuff from chaucer to forge or simply
delete the entry in known_hosts.

Subject: [MITgcm-support] Another CVS broken case
I don't seem to be able to check out from CVS either e.g.
> [cnh at cg01 cnh]$ cvs co -d foo MITgcm
> The authenticity of host 'mitgcm.org (18.24.3.31)' can't be
established.
> RSA key fingerprint is
e3:bb:0d:b2:2e:4f:78:ff:9a:30:27:87:83:af:d6:0f.
> Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
> Warning: Permanently added 'mitgcm.org,18.24.3.31' (RSA) to the list
of known hosts.
> cnh at mitgcm.org's password:
> Cannot access /u/u0/gcmpack/CVSROOT
> No such file or directory
It doesn't seem to be seeing /u/u0
Thanks,
Chris
