Summary: makedepend not found by Makefile

Initial Comment:
Under a default RH8.0 installation makedepend is not 
installed and consequently "make depend" fails.

BTW, there is a script, ./tools/xmakedepend, which PH 
added but is not saught automatically by genmake.
