Hi,

just as additional information: loging in to the pserver worked fine for 
me (from a Sun Solaris maschine tphs14.awi-bremerhaven.de):
tphs14::>cvs login
(Logging in to cvsanon at mitgcm.org)
CVS password:
tphs14::> cat .cvs
pass:pserver:cvsanon at mitgcm.org:/u/u0/gcmpack Ah<Zy=0=
