i'm not trying to make a mess.
i don't think what your suggesting works.
in particular we won't be merging wholesale from c49
into r1, just a few bug fixes. then we need to test
the fixed r1. i still don't know how we are doing that?
i can't do anything until we know what we are doing.

Chris, then why didn't you use them instead
of making a mess of release1-branch.

Do what ever you need to do. I have better things to do than
try to ensure there's some order in the process.
