After a long day of profiling, it seems that the optimization options as
created by genmake slow down THERMODYNAMICS. When I use just FOPTIM =
-O3 (that's the default for the SUN F77 6.2) the execution times for my
particular example are:
THERMODYNAMICS: ~10 s (with the orginal options it was ~ 20 s)
DYNAMICS		~ 8 s (as opposed to 6 s previously)

Now I can integrate 100 years in ~8h with a time step of 2400 s, as
opposed to 12h earlier. Still slow :-(.
