[Mitgcm-support] genmake auto scan?

I started writing out a description of genmake (FAQ entry 2.2)
but realized some (including me) might find the -rootdir=../../..
cumbersome.

I'm wondering about letting genmake automatically
scan for the ROOTDIR (assuming environment and options
are missing).
