global90x40 also uses
 eosType = 'POLY3',
 ivdc_kappa=100.,
 implicitDiffusion=.TRUE.,
 
and those things are computed in thermodynamics, I think. 

did you try to use eosType='LINEAR', + standard Convective adjustment
with implicitDiffusion=.FALSE. ?
