If you're going to create additional mpi versions of the output.txt files
such as:

  verification/${TEST_NAME}/results/output.txt
  verification/${TEST_NAME}/results/output.txt_mpi

then I think thats a cool idea and I'll modify testreport to do the
comparisons based upon the use of the "-mpi" option.  In fact, I'm working
on separating the comparison code from testreport right now.
