[MITgcm-devel] An overdue revision of some diagnostic variable names and their descriptions

Hi Ian,

The description is currently limited to 80 characters (see e.g. diagnostics_main_init.F and also in DIAGNOSTICS.h the corresponding character field is defined as
      CHARACTER*80   tdiag(ndiagMax)

) 

This would leave your suggest truncated like this:
"V geometry-weighted velocity (m/s) in y-dir. VVELMASS = VVEL x hFacS to account”
"U-component advective flux of average ice thickness (m.m^2/s) through the weste"

I like your suggestions, but they are still too long :-(
Maybe something like this:

V geometry-weighted velocity (m/s) in y-dir, accounts for varying cell height (78 Char)
U-component adv. flux of ice thickness (m.m^2/s) through western face of C-grid (80 Char)
