Hi All

We will be having a conference-call / WebEx on Wed, Jan 10, at 12:00 EST
to go over progress on migrating MITgcm code repository from cvs to github
and MITgcm manual from latex to rst/sphinx.

There is now a fairly extensive prototype of the planned combined code
and documentation online at:
  https://github.com/altMITgcm/MITgcm

And the rendered documentation at:
  https://mitgcm-example.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

The code itself is a recent, frozen version of MITgcm from mid-October 2017
which has been converted from CVS to git. The same conversion will be
applied to the latest code and put into github at the time of the switch.
The documentation is not yet complete, since conversion from the latex manual
is not automatic; however, enough has been converted to collect some feedback.

In particular, for developers, a new section on contributing is visible here
  https://mitgcm-example.readthedocs.io/en/latest/contributing/contributing.html
with corresponding source file visible here
  https://raw.githubusercontent.com/altMITgcm/MITgcm/master/doc/contributing/contributing.rst

We think we are close to where we can migrate to a git and rst setup
permanently. This call will describe what that involves and get feedback.
