Hi Ryan,

I have problems to compile pkg/layers. 
Did you try, on baudelaire.csail.mit.edu, from verification dir:
> ./testreport -of ../tools/build_options/linux_amd64_gfortran -devel -t 'cfc_example exp4'
these (cfc_example & exp4) are the 2 experiments that compile pkg/layers.

Also, seems that there is missing:
       IF ( useLayers ) THEN 
       ENDIF
for each the the pkg/layers call you added in model/src and pkg/generic_advdiff
