few things have been tried, but more tests needed (and not much done recently),
but, on the coding side, to continue (and extend it to non multi-dim)
would need to switch the k & tracer loop in thermodynamics.F, so
not going to happen very soon. But independent of these variance related
diags, I would like to do this re-arrangement in thermodynamics.

Anyway, would  be a good thing to have your diagnostics checked-in.
Could you give a list of S/R to be modified (in case of potential
conflict, I will know in advance) ?
