Interesting. what does "size mitgcmuv" say?
which compiler do you use? I have
run> size ../build/mitgcmuv
__TEXT	__DATA	__OBJC	others	dec	hex
3407872	160079872	0	4295045120	4458532864	109bfd000
so more than 4GB. Where does that come from? Version of gfortran?
run> gfortran -v
Using built-in specs.
COLLECT_GCC=gfortran
COLLECT_LTO_WRAPPER=/usr/local/libexec/gcc/x86_64-apple-darwin10.4.0/4.6.0/lto-wrapper
Target: x86_64-apple-darwin10.4.0
Configured with: ../gcc-4.6-20101106/configure --enable-languages=c++,fortran
Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.6.0 20101106 (experimental) (GCC)
