Hi Ian,

It's not always obvious to fix a restart problem.
We have an other 1-column test-experiment (vermix) which pass
the 2+2=4 test, but it's without seaice. Might be worth to try 
without seaice dynamics (just in case).

If you want to try the 2+2=4 test (I wanted to put some documentation 
in devel_HOWTO but did not go very far ...), here is how it works:

1) start from a testreport run: (in MITgcm/verification):
> testreport -t 1D_ocean_ice_column

2) from there you can run "do_tst_2+2" for all the tested experiments
   or just for 1D_ocean_ice_column:
> ../tools/do_tst_2+2 -t 1D_ocean_ice_column
  ("do_tst_2+2 -h" gives the list of options)

but it might be simpler to use directly "tst_2+2" (so that you can 
repeat the test several times without going through testreport)
> cd 1D_ocean_ice_column/run
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2
  => do nothing, just print the options
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2 0
  => prepare files to run the test
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2 1
  => do the 3 runs
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2 2
  => compare the cg2d output
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2 3
  => diff pickup files
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2 4
  => clean up and restore the run dir as it was before step 0
> ../../../tools/tst_2+2 All
  => do all 5 steps (except cleaning if step 3 does not return zero diff)
