Martin, sorry to be bearer of possibly bad news.
I just checked out a fresh copy of MITgcm code and tried running
latest CS510 configuration:

It fails on first time step with
SEAICE_no_slip = .FALSE.
even when deltat=10, but it works fine with
SEAICE_no_slip = .TRUE.
and deltat=1200
