Yes!  That's exactly it.  Is this bit of code needed at all?  It does not even 
do linear interpolation in time correctly, unless one wanted to read the first 
record and that's it?

For safety, I will just add a ".NOT. useExfYearlyFields" as an additional 
condition as I don't know exactly why this initialization is there inthe first 
place.

I will also add to your obcs routines, if needed.  D.
