[MITgcm-devel] free drift ice model

Hi Dimitris and Martin and others,

I want to use a free drift sea ice model for my Southern Ocean state
estimate.  I intend to set

Uice = A x Usurface  +  B x Uwind

So I need to determine A & B. I am under the impression that over
most of the Southern Ocean the ice is loose and A will be about 1.
(I believe in the current model set up the wind stress acts on the
ocean as if the ice wasn't there. If this is so setting A = 1 would
make for a more consistent depiction of things...right?)

A suggestion by JMC was to run the model with the full sea ice
dynamics and then find A and B by linear regression.

I was wondering what people think of this idea and if anyone has an
idea as to how to determine A and B. Are there already numbers out
there for free drift models?

Thanks,
Matt
