Hi
I wouldn't use neither
-DNML_TERMINATOR="/"
-DNML_TERMINATOR='/'
but just
-DNML_TERMINATOR
so that the Flag is defined, this will change the ' &' to ' /'.
Actually I had problems with genmake2, because the quotation 
marks broke a few tests (e.g., the netcdf test)
