Hi Alistair,

Where (on which machines) are you experiencing this slowdown?  I'm using
the same CVSROOT (well, with "s/adcroft/edhill/") and not seeing the 40+
second slowdown that you mention.  However, I usually do see somewhat
slower CVS updates/check-outs to more distant machines such as Columbia.
So perhaps its just network speed?

Another possibility is that mitgcm.org might have been heavily loaded at
the time you were using it (like, running updatedb or prelink).  We have
a much nicer machine thats about to replace the current one so it may
help.
