Hi Andrea & Jean-Michel,

The TS folks installed the PGI-5.2 compiler on the authors network and I
added a compatible netCDF build to its standard include and library
directories so that it will "just work" with netCDF.

The compiler should be available on all the authors machines running
Fedora Core 3 including:

  hemmingway, faulks, hugo, forge, belle

and heres two helpful notes:

 1) use either "setenv PGI /usr/local/pkg/pgi/pgi-5.2-fc3"
or "export PGI=/usr/local/pkg/pgi/pgi-5.2-fc3" to set the
PGI environment variable to enable the license manager

 2) heres a new optfile:
    "MITgcm/tools/build_options/linux_ia32_pgf77+authors_fc3"
and I confirmed that it works nicely with netCDF on
    hemmingway
