[MITgcm-devel] CVS file permissions and "cvs watch"

Hi folks,
Jean-Michel and I recently had some problems with check-outs from the
CVS repository. A few files, including:
model/src/ini_mnc_io.F
and some in pkg/mnc/ had unhelpful read-only (-r--r--r--) permissions
instead of the more normal (-rw-r--r--) permissions. This caused
annoying errors when trying to delete or edit these files. And fresh
check-outs, check-ins, and updates did nothing to help.
So we googled a bit and found the solution:
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/ecos-patches/2003-11/msg00132.html
which is to delete the "CVS/fileattr" files within the *repository*.
Supposedly, these files are created when someone (perhaps accidentally)
does a "cvs watch" on one or more files. So, in future, please don't
try to use the cvs watch facility. And save this email in case we have
this (annoying!) problem again!
