[MITgcm-devel] momentum ...

P.,
I think the commenting of the IF statement arose because I was testing the
on-tile diagnostics and writing the deformation/strain fields to files (see
lower in the code). The IF should be uncommented but also an IF added to the
diagnostics lines...

Subject: [MITgcm-devel] momentum ...
Alistair, I have a few questions.
In the recent code S/R mom_fluxform has the conditions
IF (viscAstrain.NE.0. .OR. viscAtension.NE.0.) THEN
of calls to S/R MOM_CALC_TENSION, MOM_CALC_STRAIN
commented.
That IF-statement is not commented in S/R mom_vecinv.
Is there a special reason for this difference?
The other issue is that we are running a
1/4 degree setup in the Mediterranean.
Model seems to run ok if using
vectorinvariantmomentum=.FALSE.
but crashes after about 1 month for vectorinvariantmomentum=.TRUE. Biharm.
friction in both cases is viscA4=8.E10 (typical value for this setup). Any
idea what could go wrong? Different treatment of horiz. viscosities?
Different treatment of noslip conditions?
Cheers
-Patrick
