Yes, for 510x510 grid

  rAz(corner) < 3/4 rAc(next_to_the_corner) < rAz(elsewhere).

definitely holds.

>> raz(1:3,1:3,1)/1e6
ans =
    9.5412   26.4126   41.2184
   26.4126   32.8828   44.2367
   41.2184   44.2367   51.4611

>> rac(1:3,1:3)/1e6
ans =
   21.0768   35.3741   48.2147
   35.3741   42.7358   52.4916
   48.2147   52.4916   59.3985

So I think that it's worth trying your trick.

In the code that I am using, RAZ only seems to be active in
mom_vi_calc_relvort3.F.  Would it be OK to just set
rAz(corner) = 3/4 rAc(next_to_the_corner) = 15.8076
in the input files or in ini_curvilinear_grid.F
