Hi Andy,

 I spoke with Jean-Michel this morning to discuss what you should be working
on. He explained that its still possible that the implicit vertical stuff
has a bug (i.e the with and withlout results differ more than expected). We
agreed that it would be good to get that work finished off before doing
anything on exch2().

 If you get the implicit stuff finished let me know, Jean-Michel has an
updated exch2_ routine that you can start trying out.
