this is a test: append to compiler FLAGS instead of setting it
 - FLAGS are already initialised (empty) in genmake2 => should be safe
 - allows to add some specific option (through file genmake_local) for a
   particular experiment/set-up (e.g.: extended source for bottom_ctrl_5x5)
