 o diagnostics are now producing NetCDF output
   - tested with hs94.cs-32x32x5 and seems to work well
   - still need some variable attributes:
     - list the levels
     - describe the time averaging periods where applicable
   - need the N+1 points for U and V values (or do we care?)
