[Aces-support] MAXFILES

Dear all,

When I try to compile the mitgcm on one of the nodes from AO, I get the 
error :
makedepend: error:  out of space: increase MAXFILES

after I invoke 'make depend'.

A ulimit -a gives:

core file size        (blocks, -c) unlimited
data seg size         (kbytes, -d) unlimited
file size             (blocks, -f) unlimited
max locked memory     (kbytes, -l) 32
max memory size       (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files                    (-n) 1024
pipe size          (512 bytes, -p) 8
stack size            (kbytes, -s) unlimited
cpu time             (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes            (-u) 32765
virtual memory        (kbytes, -v) unlimited

And trying to up the open files limit via "ulimit -n 2048" gives

-bash: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted

I have these modules loaded:

1) man                             8) ncview/1.92e(default)

  3) rsh                            10) ifc/8.1.018(default)
  4) torque-additions/1.0(default)  11) mpich2/1.0.3/intel

Any ideas?
